About this specimen

Guizhou dolomite with calcite at 33 g; a miniature with two carbonates. A cluster of cream dolomite rhombs with a single pale yellow, translucent calcite crystal at the lower right.

Dolomite forms curved, saddle-shaped rhombs with a pearly lustre and is the usual companion of calcite and fluorite in Chinese carbonate deposits.

Calcium carbonate in its rhombohedral form, calcite is soft (Mohs 3) and takes a bright vitreous to pearly lustre on fresh faces.

Guizhou is the source of the collector creedite and hosts important fluorite, calcite and copper-mineral localities around Qinglong.

By size it is miniature, 3.9 × 3.7 × 2.9 cm (1.54 × 1.46 × 1.14 in) and 33 g (1.2 oz). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.

Carbonate: never clean with acid or vinegar.

Every specimen here is photographed and catalogued individually before listing.
