About this specimen

Light goes straight through the pair of cubes crowning this piece — barely tinted, nearer ice than blue, with grey feathery inclusions suspended inside one of them and a slick of rainbow where an internal parting catches the lamp. They sit on a knobbly olive-buff druse that narrows to a blunt point, giving the specimen an upright stance without any help.

Clarity at this level is what built the Yaogangxian reputation: you can read the far face of a cube through the near one, and the inclusions stop being flaws and start being weather hanging in the middle of the crystal. Fluorite (CaF2) is Mohs 4 and parts on octahedral planes, which is exactly what the iridescent film is — light interfering across a hairline cleavage that never opened.

It measures 6.1 × 4.6 × 3.0 cm and weighs 71 g. No stand accompanies it; the druse foot holds the piece up unaided. Every frame in this listing was shot from this specimen.
