A tight group of black magnetite crystals with sharp rhombic dodecahedral faces, some frosted and matte, others with a bright metallic flash, and a small brown garnet tucked between them at the top. The geometry is the whole show.
Inner Mongolia's skarns produce magnetite in crisp dodecahedra like these; a magnet will cling to it, which makes it a favourite for teaching and for thumbnail collections.
