Inner Mongolia magnetite at 2.6 cm; a miniature single crystal, supplied in the display box shown. A single magnetite crystal in dark steel grey, its rhombic faces meeting in clean straight edges with fine growth lines running parallel across each one.
Magnetite forms black octahedra and is strongly magnetic; a paper clip will cling to good crystals.
Inner Mongolia's Huanggang and Chifeng districts produce fluorite, calcite, garnet and rhodochrosite in a lustre and clarity that set the modern standard for Chinese carbonates.
By size it is miniature. Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
