About this specimen

Meigu, Sichuan, garden quartz with epidote at 12.6 cm and 181 g; a large cabinet plate. A long plate of tan matrix with dark green epidote crystals and small quartz points scattered across it, the garden quartz the supplier names, with epidote on both faces and complete overall as the supplier notes.

The inclusions in garden quartz are frozen mid-growth, which is why every crystal reads as a small, unrepeatable scene.

Epidote forms pistachio-green prismatic crystals, often striated, and is a classic companion of quartz and feldspar in Chinese skarn deposits. Quartz is the most collected mineral on earth for good reason: sharp hexagonal prisms, bright terminations and endless variation between localities.

Sichuan hosts Xuebaoding, Jinkouhe and Leshan, sources of aquamarine, scheelite, prehnite, gypsum and the epidote-quartz skarn specimens seen here.

The piece is large cabinet in size, 2.6 × 6.1 × 12.6 cm (1.02 × 2.40 × 4.96 in) and 181 g (6.4 oz). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.

Each specimen is individually photographed and catalogued before it is listed.
