About this specimen
Meigu County, Sichuan, epidote with quartz at 6.2 cm and 33 g; a small cabinet piece with a sawn base. A flat slab of white quartz and feldspar with bright green epidote crystals set through it and an orange stained edge; the supplier notes the base was cut.
Epidote's deep pistachio to olive green and striated prism faces separate it from prehnite.
Good quartz is about hexagonal prisms with clean terminations and the glassy lustre that lets a cluster catch light from every angle.
Sichuan hosts Xuebaoding, Jinkouhe and Leshan, sources of aquamarine, scheelite, prehnite, gypsum and the epidote-quartz skarn specimens seen here.
