About this specimen
Sichuan epidote quartz at 5.8 cm and 39 g; a small cabinet piece. A clear quartz prism rising from a base of dark green epidote crystals with white matrix beneath.
Epidote's deep pistachio to olive green and striated prism faces separate it from prehnite.
Rock crystal is judged on termination quality, clarity and how the crystals sit together, and the Chinese localities have raised the bar on all three.
Sichuan hosts Xuebaoding, Jinkouhe and Leshan, sources of aquamarine, scheelite, prehnite, gypsum and the epidote-quartz skarn specimens seen here.
