About this specimen

Frost is the only honest word for this surface. A continuous crust of colourless micro-crystals covers the whole plate, and beneath it pale sea-green fluorite shows through in soft rounded blocks — some almost mint, others closer to grey-green where the coating thickens. Along the free edges the crust breaks into glittering points, and in the hollows the darker host rock stays visible.

Collectors call this the sugar habit, and it records the last act in a pocket: once the fluorite had finished growing, a final cooler fluid laid a skin of tiny clear crystals over everything. It reads very differently under different lighting: diffuse daylight brings up the green body colour, while a point source lights the crust and the plate turns white and glittering. Fluorite is Mohs 4, and the crust is what handling costs you, so take hold of the base.

The plate measures 5.8 × 5.6 × 2.3 cm and weighs 45 g, supplied on the clear acrylic base shown, held upright with white putty. Everything in these images is the specimen itself.

Can I return it?

Yes — there is a 14-day return window.
