About this specimen
Fujian stepped green fluorite with calcite at 20 g; a miniature for the UV collector.
Fluorite crystallises in the cubic system and is prized for its saturated colour, glassy lustre and the way zoned phantoms appear when the crystals are back-lit.
Calcite is the most shape-shifting of common minerals: over 800 crystal forms have been described, and Chinese localities produce many of the best.
Fujian's fluorite-quartz veins have supplied collectors for two decades; the province is the source of most of the green and purple Chinese fluorite on the market.
Dimensions place it in the miniature range, 3.8 × 2.8 × 2.1 cm (1.50 × 1.10 × 0.83 in) and 20 g (0.7 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
