About this specimen
Long, straight needles of green tourmaline cross this large Brazilian quartz sphere, some running nearly edge to edge, others short and scattered like drifting grass. Between them float small feather and leaf-shaped inclusions, and when the light comes from the side, full-spectrum rainbows arc around the curve of the sphere.
The quartz is clear and transparent, so the needles stay sharp and visible from all directions. It has been polished. At this size and weight it makes a confident centrepiece; a low, sturdy stand and side lighting will bring out both the needles and the rainbows.
