About this specimen
One fluorite cube, seated on a crust of white druse, shows a green heart framed by a violet border that follows every edge of the crystal like a mount around a picture. The faces are lightly frosted, veiled by the same sugary white coating that covers the matrix, so the colour reads through a soft haze rather than through glass.
Edge-concentrated colour of this kind is common in Yaogangxian fluorite: the chemistry shifted between the interior and the last-formed shell, and the edges and corners — where faces meet and material accumulates fastest — took the deepest violet. The white bloom over the cube is a later generation of fine crystals, not surface damage. At Mohs 4 with perfect octahedral cleavage, those corners are the vulnerable points.
