About this specimen
Xuebaoding, Sichuan, quartz with mica at 11.1 cm and 276 g; a cabinet plate. A broad plate of grey mica matrix with a small clear quartz prism standing near the top and white feldspar at the base.
Good quartz is about hexagonal prisms with clean terminations and the glassy lustre that lets a cluster catch light from every angle.
Mica forms pearly hexagonal books that catch the light between the other crystals.
The Xuebaoding veins of Pingwu County, Sichuan, produced the orange scheelite and muscovite-aquamarine combinations that put Chinese minerals on the map.
The piece is cabinet in size, 11.1 × 6.8 × 4.2 cm (4.37 × 2.68 × 1.65 in) and 276 g (9.7 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
