About this specimen
Guizhou gypsum on fluorite at 14.1 cm and 360 g; a large cabinet plate with a frosted look. Gypsum: keep dry.
Gypsum (selenite) is hydrated calcium sulfate, very soft and prone to bladed or swallowtail-twinned crystals with a pearly lustre.
Chinese fluorite has become a staple of modern collections for its sharp crystal faces, strong colour and a lustre that reads well from across the room.
Guizhou's Qinglong antimony-fluorite district is the classic source for creedite sprays and continues to produce zoned fluorite and calcite.
By size it is large cabinet, 14.1 × 9.6 × 4.1 cm (5.55 × 3.78 × 1.61 in) and 360 g (12.7 oz). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
