About this specimen

The carver worked with the rock’s own map rather than against it. A cream-white seam crosses the brow and drops into the cheek, dark green blotches sit where the temple would be, and the cranium above them runs brick-red into maroon. The eye sockets are cut deep and round, and the teeth are scored in a tight grid across a jaw polished until it reflects.

Garnet is a family of silicates rather than a single species, and the massive red rock used here takes a carver’s tools better than most gem material: hardness 6.5 to 7.5, no cleavage in any direction, and a conchoidal fracture that polishes without plucking. The pale and green bands running through it are other minerals in the host rock, which is why the gloss shifts as the surface turns: red garnet holds a wetter shine than the cream zones beside it.

The skull is 9.1 × 7.6 × 5.8 cm and weighs 885 g, heavy for its size and solid in the hand; it is shown standing on a clear round display disc. No two skulls come out of a mottled rock alike, and this is the one photographed.

About Garnet

Garnet refers to a group of related silicate minerals sharing a common crystal structure but differing in composition. The group includes almandine, pyrope, spessartine, andradite, grossular, and uvarovite — each with distinct collector and gem properties.

Frequently asked questions

Will I receive the exact specimen shown?

Yes. Every specimen is a single, one-of-a-kind piece, and the photographs show the exact item you will receive — never a stock photo.

Is this Garnet natural?

Yes — specimens like this form naturally. As is standard in the trade, some pieces are gently cleaned or trimmed; we photograph the actual specimen and describe its origin and condition conservatively.

How is it packed and shipped?

Orders ship worldwide with fully insured, tracked delivery, carefully packed to protect fragile crystals. A display base is included.

Can I return it?

Yes — there is a 14-day return window.
