About this specimen
Yunnan hemimorphite at 2.3 cm; a thumbnail, supplied in the display box shown. A thin plate covered in pale turquoise hemimorphite, the botryoidal knobs packed so closely that the surface reads as a single soft blue-green field with a matte sheen.
Hemimorphite is a zinc silicate that forms fan-shaped sprays of bladed crystals or botryoidal blue crusts; both forms are represented in Chinese and Mexican material.
Yunnan's copper and lead-zinc districts produce the azurite, malachite, pyromorphite, hemimorphite and blue aragonite that define Chinese secondary minerals.
