About this specimen

Hundreds of small spheres crowd the face of this Indonesian plate, packed as tightly as the head of a cauliflower and coloured a dusty grape-violet that pales to mauve wherever a chalky white film has settled between the clusters. The finish is matte and soft rather than glassy, and down in the recesses the botryoidal balls darken almost to slate.

Grape agate is the trade name for botryoidal chalcedony — microcrystalline quartz, SiO2, Mohs 7 — grown as spheres lining cavities in volcanic rock instead of as the banded agate the name suggests. That hardness makes it forgiving in the hand, but the thin rims where clusters overhang the matrix will snap off if the plate is set down hard on one edge.

A substantial piece at 15.2 × 6.4 × 5.8 cm and 610 g, spanning an adult palm as photographed. No stand is included, and nothing was substituted for the camera — this is the cluster that will be wrapped and sent.

Will I receive the exact specimen shown?

Yes. Every specimen is a single, one-of-a-kind piece, and the photographs show the exact item you will receive — never a stock photo.

Is this Quartz natural?

Yes — specimens like this form naturally. As is standard in the trade, some pieces are gently cleaned or trimmed; we photograph the actual specimen and describe its origin and condition conservatively.

How is it packed and shipped?

Orders ship worldwide with fully insured, tracked delivery, carefully packed to protect fragile crystals. A display base is included.

Can I return it?

Yes — there is a 14-day return window.
