About this specimen
Honey-orange stilbite piles up across this Fujian specimen in fat sheaves and bowties, each aggregate a bundle of flat blades splaying apart at both ends. The colour runs warm: amber where the blades are thick, paler and almost butterscotch where they thin. Surfaces carry a soft pearly sheen rather than a hard glitter. Underneath, a white matrix is peppered with dark green-black micro crystals, and a few colourless quartz points crowd in at the right.
Stilbite is a zeolite, a hydrated calcium-sodium aluminosilicate that grows in gas cavities in volcanic rock, and it is known for exactly this sheaf-like habit—crystals that widen at both ends and pinch at the waist. It is soft, roughly Mohs 3.5–4, and carries water inside its own framework, so keep it out of direct sun and away from radiators.
The specimen measures 5.3 × 5.6 × 4.4 cm and weighs 130 g, and it comes on the clear acrylic block seen in the photographs, which holds the stilbite face-forward at its best angle. This is the individual specimen you will receive.
