About this specimen

Pale pink and white calcite spreads into feathery, overlapping fans, with small mirror-bright hematite accents between the layers.
Thin calcite blades stack into broad petal forms, with soft pink bands adding warmth to the white crystalline surface. Reflective dark patches at the base and between several fans contrast with the fine, nearly parallel calcite edges. Six complete photographs show this single piece upright, from the front, from the reverse and in a low side profile. The association is calcite with specular hematite; the locality is Inner Mongolia. Natural irregularities remain visible along the crystal edges.
