About this specimen
Guizhou purple fluorite at 23 × 14 × 10 cm and 2545 g; a large cabinet display piece. A large, rounded mass of purple fluorite with a frosted, matte surface shading from deep violet to pale lilac, capped at the top right by a cluster of white crystals.
Fluorite crystallises in the cubic system and is prized for its saturated colour, glassy lustre and the way zoned phantoms appear when the crystals are back-lit.
Guizhou's Qinglong antimony-fluorite district is the classic source for creedite sprays and continues to produce zoned fluorite and calcite.
The piece is large cabinet in size, 23 × 14 × 10 cm (9.06 × 5.51 × 3.94 in) and 2545 g (89.8 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
