About this specimen
Yunnan pyrite at 5.5 cm; a small cabinet single crystal. A single pyrite crystal in bright brass, heavy for its size, with fine parallel striations ruling each face in a different direction — the mark of a well-grown cube.
Pyrite is the most collected metallic mineral, and the best pieces combine sharp form with a lustre that has not dulled; store it dry to keep it that way.
Yunnan is China's most mineralogically diverse province, source of the pyromorphite, azurite and blue aragonite that have become collector favourites.
