About this specimen

A ridge of lilac fluorite cubes runs along the top and right edge of this plate, each crystal holding a darker violet core suspended inside near-colourless outer glass. The phantoms are square and sharply drawn, a record of the crystal at an earlier size. Below them the matrix is carpeted with tan muscovite flakes — thousands of small books that give back a dull champagne shimmer.

Phantoms form when growth pauses. A film of impurity settles on the crystal faces, or the chemistry of the fluid shifts, and when fluorite resumes it grows straight over the top and seals the old outline in place. Hunan supplies this pale-lavender-on-mica association in quantity, though phantom zoning as legible as this is less usual. Fluorite is Mohs 4 and cleaves perfectly in four directions.

The plate measures 8.6 × 2.0 × 5.6 cm and weighs 210 g, thin enough to lean against a shelf back or lie flat in a drawer, and it comes without a base. You are looking at photographs of this plate itself.

Can I return it?

Yes — there is a 14-day return window.
