About this specimen
Pale grey-green fluorite cubes gather at the top of a slim khaki matrix stub on this Yaogangxian thumbnail, and a frosted white crystal group has grown squarely across the front face like a snowdrift caught mid-slide. Look into the green and you find soft internal veils and faint zoning; look at the matrix and you find it dusted with pinpoint sparkles.
Yaogangxian is a tungsten mine, and its fluorite comes out of quartz-rich veins alongside wolframite, scheelite and calcite — and the green here reads muted and slightly grey rather than the electric tone of much Fujian material. The white overgrowth clearly arrived after the fluorite, since it sits on the cube faces instead of beneath them.
