About this specimen
Fujian smoky quartz at 7.6 cm and 59 g; a small cabinet piece, priced with the damage disclosed. A stout smoky quartz crystal with a grey phantom inside and striated faces; the supplier notes damage on the side of the tip.
Smoky quartz owes its brown-to-black tone to natural irradiation of trace aluminium in the lattice, and the best pieces keep transparency through the colour.
Fujian's fluorite-quartz veins have supplied collectors for two decades; the province is the source of most of the green and purple Chinese fluorite on the market.
Dimensions place it in the small cabinet range, 2.3 × 2 × 7.6 cm (0.91 × 0.79 × 2.99 in) and 59 g (2.1 oz). Disclosed condition: damage on the side of the tip. The price reflects it and the photographs show the affected area. Condition is otherwise as photographed.
