About this specimen
Fujian smoky quartz with spessartine at 2.6 cm; a miniature. The supplier did not record a weight.
The smoky colour is natural and usually deepens toward the terminations while the prism bases stay clearer.
Chinese garnet localities in Fujian and Inner Mongolia produce crisp, lustrous dodecahedra on feldspar and quartz. Spessartine is the manganese garnet; the Fujian material is nicknamed Fanta garnet for its orange glow on smoky quartz and feldspar.
Fujian's fluorite-quartz veins have supplied collectors for two decades; the province is the source of most of the green and purple Chinese fluorite on the market.
