About this specimen
Fujian smoky quartz with mica at 6.8 cm and 51 g; a small cabinet piece. A dark smoky quartz crystal with pale mica dusting its tip, the two minerals the supplier lists, the tip complete as the supplier notes; the supplier notes a mining-contact base.
Smoky quartz owes its brown-to-black tone to natural irradiation of trace aluminium in the lattice, and the best pieces keep transparency through the colour.
Mica books, silvery to bronze, are the usual companion of pegmatite minerals and add a flash of pearly lustre to the piece.
Fujian is China's most productive fluorite province, and its granite-hosted veins also yield the garnet, quartz and calcite that fill modern collections.
The piece is small cabinet in size, 2.1 × 2.2 × 6.8 cm (0.83 × 0.87 × 2.68 in) and 51 g (1.8 oz). Disclosed condition: a mining-contact base. The price reflects it and the photographs show the affected area. Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
Each specimen is individually photographed and catalogued before it is listed.
