About this specimen
Hold this Brazilian smoky quartz up to a light and a glowing white cloud appears at its centre, a dense, glittering mass of floating cotton-like inclusions shaped a little like a small figure or sprite. Wispy white feathers sweep out from it on either side, and a separate white plume floats like a comet's tail on the far side.
The quartz itself is a light, clear smoky grey that looks deep and dark when photographed against black. With a torch behind it, a cool blue haze fills the ball and the cloud seems to hover in a night sky. It is polished but otherwise.
