About this specimen
Sichuan smoky quartz at 5.7 cm and 24 g; a small cabinet piece. A tea-brown smoky quartz crystal with a milky white cap at the tip and a golden-stained base.
Smoky quartz owes its brown-to-black tone to natural irradiation of trace aluminium in the lattice, and the best pieces keep transparency through the colour.
Sichuan's alpine-type veins and skarns yield aquamarine, prehnite, epidote and scheelite of international quality.
Dimensions place it in the small cabinet range, 2.2 × 1.1 × 5.7 cm (0.87 × 0.43 × 2.24 in) and 24 g (0.8 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
