About this specimen
Yunnan veszelyite at 2.8 cm; a miniature, supplied in the display box shown. Blue veszelyite runs up the face of a narrow upright piece with bands of orange-tan rock showing between the crystal patches, the two colours alternating up the height.
Veszelyite is a rare hydrated copper-zinc phosphate that forms deep blue to blue-green crystals; the Laochang district of Yunnan is the best-known modern source.
Yunnan is China's most mineralogically diverse province, source of the pyromorphite, azurite and blue aragonite that have become collector favourites.
By size it is miniature, 2.8 × 1.6 × 1.1 cm (1.10 × 0.63 × 0.43 in). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
