About this specimen
Pakistan, tourmaline with feldspar at 5.3 cm; a small cabinet piece. A black tourmaline prism, striated along its length, stands out of a mass of cream and apricot feldspar, with paler crystals crusting the top of the tourmaline.
Tourmaline forms striated prisms with a rounded-triangular cross-section, most prized when still in the pegmatite matrix.
Feldspar forms the blocky, pale crystals that act as a stage for the more colourful minerals in a pegmatite pocket.
Pakistan's Gilgit-Baltistan pegmatites produce aquamarine, topaz, fluorite, quartz and garnet of international quality.
Dimensions place it in the small cabinet range, 5.3 × 3.2 × 3 cm (2.09 × 1.26 × 1.18 in). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
