About this specimen

Two calcite crystals meet at a sharp angle here, one standing upright in pale rose-clear glass, the other thrown out sideways as a flat wedge. Inside that wedge floats an olive-green plume, feathered along its margins and stained rust-orange where it touches the crystal wall, legible straight through the calcite as though pressed between two panes. Both rise from a knob of brick-orange crust furred with micro-crystals.

An inclusion settles its own chronology: the green material was already sitting in the cavity when the calcite began to grow, and the crystal closed around it, sealing a feather of one mineral inside another. None of this is worked — the twin faces and the wedge are natural growth. Calcite is soft, Mohs 3 with three perfect cleavages, so an included crystal this clean is luckier than it looks.

Small and light: 3.6 × 1.5 × 2.8 cm, 10 g, set on putty on the clear acrylic block shown, which is included. The crystal in these photographs is the crystal that ships.

Can I return it?

Yes — there is a 14-day return window.
