About this specimen

Xuebaoding, Sichuan, aquamarine with mica and feldspar at 7.3 cm and 58 g; a small cabinet piece with two display sides. A plate of golden mica and white feldspar with pale aquamarine crystals grown on both faces, which the supplier points out.

Glassy hexagonal prisms and a sea-blue tone define the aquamarine variety.

Mica books, silvery to bronze, are the usual companion of pegmatite minerals and add a flash of pearly lustre to the piece. Feldspar forms the blocky, pale crystals that act as a stage for the more colourful minerals in a pegmatite pocket.

The Xuebaoding veins of Pingwu County, Sichuan, produced the orange scheelite and muscovite-aquamarine combinations that put Chinese minerals on the map.

The piece is small cabinet in size, 7.3 × 2.2 × 3.9 cm (2.87 × 0.87 × 1.54 in) and 58 g (2.0 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.

Each specimen is individually photographed and catalogued before it is listed.
