About this specimen
Morocco vanadinite at 2.6 cm; a miniature, supplied on the acrylic stand shown. Vanadinite in red-orange covers the whole face of the matrix in close-packed hexagonal plates, the crystals overlapping so that the rock underneath barely shows.
Vanadinite forms red to orange-brown hexagonal plates and barrels with a resinous lustre; the Moroccan material from Mibladen is the classic.
Morocco's Mibladen and Touissit districts are the classic source of vanadinite, cerussite and baryte, mined from lead deposits in the High Atlas.
By size it is miniature, 2.6 × 2.5 × 1.2 cm (1.02 × 0.98 × 0.47 in). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
Contains lead-bearing minerals: wash hands after handling and keep away from children and pets.
