About this specimen

Look straight into this sea-green Xianghualing cube and a second cube looks back — a darker green phantom suspended dead-centre, its edges as sharp as the crystal that encloses it. Collectors call the effect a “window”: a complete earlier crystal preserved inside the later one, visible only because the outer growth stayed transparent.

Ochre iron staining runs along a few edges and corners, the pocket’s signature, and the faces themselves are glass-smooth with faint growth stepping. Xianghualing, in Chenzhou, Hunan, is the locality that made this nested-cube look famous.
