이 베라크루스 판에서 가장 큰 결정은 발치에서 물처럼 맑고 끝에서는 온전한 보라색이 되는 가느다란 기둥으로, 모암에서 거의 수직으로 서 있습니다. 그 주위로 더 짧은 결정들이 느슨한 왕관처럼 바깥으로 기울어 있습니다. 어떤 것은 짙은 보라색이고 어떤 것은 색이 겨우 비칠 정도이며, 하나는 쓰러진 돛대처럼 정동면 위에 납작하게 누워 있습니다. 모암은 옅고 설탕 같은 껍질을 두른 짙은 회색 암석입니다.
베라크루스산 자수정은 바로 이런 절제로 높이 평가됩니다. 얇고 유리 같으며 끝맺음이 날카로운 기둥에 색이 끝쪽으로 고여 있어, 브라질산 정동 표본의 벽 끝까지 가득한 진한 보라색과는 사뭇 다릅니다. 자수정은 석영, 곧 SiO2이며, 지질학적 시간 동안 자연 방사선이 켜 놓은 미량 철분이 색을 냅니다. 그 색은 빛에 민감하므로 햇볕 드는 창턱을 피해 두시면 보랏빛을 오래도록 간직합니다.
