Argentite and acanthite
Older labels often read “argentite,” the cubic high-temperature form of Ag2S. On cooling the structure converts to monoclinic acanthite while keeping the outward crystal shapes, so today’s specimens are acanthite regardless of their geometry — cubes and octahedra included. The inherited shapes are part of the species’ charm.
The Chinese angle
