About Mufushan Mining District
The Mufushan Mining District in Hubei Province (with extension into Hunan) hosts a series of Late Yanshanian granitic intrusions with associated tungsten, niobium, tantalum, and beryl-bearing pegmatites. Active since the mid-20th century, Mufushan produces collector-grade beryl, tourmaline, and tungsten-tin minerals. Adds to the existing Hubei locality coverage alongside Daye District.
Geology & Signature Specimens
The Mufushan granite is a Late Cretaceous A-type intrusion that emplaced into Sinian-Cambrian metamorphic basement, producing W-Sn-Nb-Ta-rich pegmatite cupolas and greisen alteration zones. Collector specimens favor large beryl prisms (aquamarine and yellow heliodor varieties), schorl tourmaline, cassiterite, and wolframite.
