About this specimen
Sichuan baryte with calcite at 5.7 cm; a small cabinet piece. The supplier did not record a weight.
Baryte's tabular blades are its typical habit, and its weight in the hand is the easiest field test.
Calcium carbonate in its rhombohedral form, calcite is soft (Mohs 3) and takes a bright vitreous to pearly lustre on fresh faces.
Sichuan hosts Xuebaoding, Jinkouhe and Leshan, sources of aquamarine, scheelite, prehnite, gypsum and the epidote-quartz skarn specimens seen here.
