About this specimen

Xuebaoding, Sichuan, cassiterite with mica at 2.6 cm and 13 g; a miniature, priced with the damage disclosed. A tiny black cassiterite crystal with a golden mica rosette grown on top, the two minerals the supplier lists; the supplier notes the cassiterite is damaged.

Cassiterite is tin oxide, heavy and adamantine, forming brown-black twinned crystals; the Chinese tungsten-tin deposits are a leading source.

Mica forms pearly hexagonal books that catch the light between the other crystals.

Xuebaoding in Pingwu County is the classic Chinese source of scheelite, aquamarine and cassiterite on muscovite, mined from high-altitude greisen veins.

The piece is miniature in size, 2.6 × 1.5 × 2 cm (1.02 × 0.59 × 0.79 in) and 13 g (0.5 oz). Disclosed condition: a damaged cassiterite crystal. The price reflects it and the photographs show the affected area. The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.

Each specimen is individually photographed and catalogued before it is listed.
