About this specimen
Yunnan double-terminated quartz at 4.5 cm and 7.4 g; a miniature. A slender double-terminated quartz with a dense black sugary core filling most of the crystal, the sugar-core Shanling quartz the supplier names, both tips complete as the supplier notes.
Double-terminated quartz grew free of the wall, so both ends carry natural terminations.
Yunnan is China's most mineralogically diverse province, source of the pyromorphite, azurite and blue aragonite that have become collector favourites.
Dimensions place it in the miniature range, 1.1 × 0.9 × 4.5 cm (0.43 × 0.35 × 1.77 in) and 7.4 g (0.3 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
