About this specimen
Yunnan double-terminated quartz at 4.9 cm and 11.5 g; a miniature. A double-terminated quartz with a dense black sugary core filling most of the crystal, the sugar-core Shanling quartz the supplier names, both tips complete; the supplier notes an etched spot on one face.
Double-terminated quartz grew free of the wall, so both ends carry natural terminations.
Yunnan's copper and lead-zinc districts produce the azurite, malachite, pyromorphite, hemimorphite and blue aragonite that define Chinese secondary minerals.
Dimensions place it in the miniature range, 1.4 × 1.1 × 4.9 cm (0.55 × 0.43 × 1.93 in) and 11.5 g (0.4 oz). Disclosed condition: an etched spot on one face. The price reflects it and the photographs show the affected area. The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
