About this specimen
Yunnan quartz at 2.7 cm and 8 g; a miniature. A stout quartz crystal so dense with black inclusions it sparkles, the black sparkly Shanling quartz the supplier names, with one tip self-healed as the supplier notes.
Rock crystal is judged on termination quality, clarity and how the crystals sit together, and the Chinese localities have raised the bar on all three.
Yunnan is China's most mineralogically diverse province, source of the pyromorphite, azurite and blue aragonite that have become collector favourites.
