About this specimen
Sichuan blue aragonite at 5.4 cm; a small cabinet piece. A flat slab faced with turquoise-blue aragonite, the fine needles packed upright across the whole surface so the colour reads even and the texture soft.
Aragonite is chemically the same as calcite but crystallises differently, which is why it builds sprays and columns instead of blocky rhombs.
Sichuan hosts Xuebaoding, Jinkouhe and Leshan, sources of aquamarine, scheelite, prehnite, gypsum and the epidote-quartz skarn specimens seen here.
By size it is small cabinet, 5.4 × 3 × 1.5 cm (2.13 × 1.18 × 0.59 in). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
