About this specimen
Xuebaoding, Sichuan, scheelite at 2.8 cm and 53 g; a miniature gem crystal. A bright orange scheelite crystal with glassy faces and a dark base, the colour saturated.
Scheelite forms pseudo-octahedral bipyramids in Chinese tungsten deposits and fluoresces blue-white under short-wave UV.
The Xuebaoding veins of Pingwu County, Sichuan, produced the orange scheelite and muscovite-aquamarine combinations that put Chinese minerals on the map.
The piece is miniature in size, 2.8 × 1.8 × 2.7 cm (1.10 × 0.71 × 1.06 in) and 53 g (1.9 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
