About this specimen
Etching has softened this little Xianghualing fluorite until the cube edges read as shoulders rather than corners, and the pale lilac faces have taken on a satin skin that scatters light instead of reflecting it. Two pockets of cream-coloured druse sit into the front like set stones.
That frosting is not damage. Late fluids moving through the pocket after the fluorite had finished growing went back to work on the crystals, dissolving the faces unevenly and leaving the rounded, textured surfaces you see here — a habit Xianghualing produces often and collectors seek out on purpose. Fluorite (CaF2) is soft at Mohs 4 and splits cleanly on four octahedral directions, so a knocked corner does not chip, it flakes.
Compact at 3.3 cm × 2.0 cm × 3.3 cm and 35 g. Photographed on a clear acrylic block with a dab of white mounting putty; the specimen in those frames is the one you will unwrap.
