About this specimen
Inside this polished quartz point sits a second, skeletal crystal: a crystal-in-crystal whose inner planes flash with rainbow colour under a strong light. Around it, multi-layered white phantoms rise like snowy 'silver mountains', and fine blue needles thread through the layers, showing best in close-up.
The point has bright polished faces and a natural rough base. Its colour looks different from photo to photo: daylight gives it a faint blush and a torch makes it look golden, but it is clear quartz. Size 14.6 × 5.5 × 4.4 cm / 5.7 × 2.2 × 1.7 in; weight 540 g / 19 oz.
