About this specimen
At the centre of this clear quartz sphere stands a tree made of metal: a branching cluster of chalcopyrite that glitters silvery-gold in the light, with a trunk rising from below and a crown of bright flakes spreading at the top. Smaller metallic flecks scatter around it like falling leaves, and a single rounded inclusion sits off to one side.
The quartz around the tree is clear and transparent, polished to a glossy finish. Seen from the reverse, a fine internal veil crosses the sphere. It measures 7.1 cm / 2.8 in in diameter and weighs 513 g / 18.1 oz, a natural landscape held in a globe.
