About this specimen
Brazilian dumortierite in quartz at 3.1 cm; a miniature. The supplier did not record a weight.
Dumortierite is an aluminium borosilicate that forms fine blue to violet fibres, most often seen as needle inclusions inside quartz crystals.
Double-terminated quartz grew free of the wall, so both ends carry natural terminations.
Brazil's Minas Gerais pegmatites are the world's leading source of quartz, tourmaline and beryl crystals.
