About this specimen

Chalk-white calcite rosettes open across a crust of dark bottle-green quartz, each bloom a tight knot of stubby petals no bigger than a grain of rice. Between them the green shows through in glassy, near-black patches, so the surface reads as a frost-covered hedge rather than a flat plate. The blooms carry right around the edges of the piece and over its high points.

Calcite (CaCO3) is trigonal, Mohs 3, with perfect cleavage in three rhombohedral directions — which is exactly why florets this fragile are best left untouched. The sequence is what rewards study here: the green quartz was laid down first as a druse, the calcite bloomed on top of it afterwards, and every rosette has nucleated on a raised point of that older crust.

It measures 6.4 × 4.6 × 3.8 cm and weighs 95 g, a comfortable one-hand size that needs no base. Photographed loose in the hand, so the plate in these images is precisely the one you will receive.

Frequently asked questions

Will I receive the exact specimen shown?

Yes. Every specimen is a single, one-of-a-kind piece, and the photographs show the exact item you will receive — never a stock photo.

Is this Calcite natural?

Yes — specimens like this form naturally. As is standard in the trade, some pieces are gently cleaned or trimmed; we photograph the actual specimen and describe its origin and condition conservatively.

How is it packed and shipped?

Orders ship worldwide with fully insured, tracked delivery, carefully packed to protect fragile crystals. A display base is included.

Can I return it?

Yes — there is a 14-day return window.
