About this specimen

Pale lilac cubes climb this piece in a stepped column, and every one of them is drawn in ink: a fine band of deep violet traces each edge and corner while the interiors stay almost water-clear. The effect is architectural, as though a stack of glass boxes had been outlined with a fine pen. The largest cube sits at the shoulder, its top face returning light as one flat pane.

Fluorite is CaF2, isometric, and its colour comes from defects and trace substitutions in the lattice rather than from any single pigment element. Those colour centres concentrate where the crystal grew fastest — along edges and corners — which is why zoning of this kind reproduces the cube outline so precisely. Handle it as the soft mineral it is: Mohs 4, cleaving perfectly on four octahedral directions, so a knock to a corner does real and permanent damage.

It measures 6.1 × 3.3 × 3.0 cm and weighs 79 g, shown loose in the hand rather than on a stand. The stack of cubes in these images is the one that will be sent.
