About this specimen
Fujian garnet with quartz and feldspar at 4.4 cm; a miniature. The supplier did not record a weight.
Chinese garnet localities in Fujian and Inner Mongolia produce crisp, lustrous dodecahedra on feldspar and quartz.
Rock crystal is judged on termination quality, clarity and how the crystals sit together, and the Chinese localities have raised the bar on all three. Feldspar forms the blocky, pale crystals that act as a stage for the more colourful minerals in a pegmatite pocket.
Fujian's fluorite-quartz veins have supplied collectors for two decades; the province is the source of most of the green and purple Chinese fluorite on the market.
